Tips For Choosing Bar Stools

I don’t know about you but I nearly always find myself heading for a bar stool when I visit a cafe. There’s something about being perched on a bar stool that for me adds to the overall experience of enjoying a cup of coffee. Perhaps it’s because I can interact with the barrista or perhaps it’s because I have a great vantage point from which to people watch – another of my favourite pastimes. The point is, that if a person is sitting comfortably they’re more likely to hang around for longer and spend more more on ordering another drink and perhaps some food.

With so many types of stools to choose from, knowing which to choose can be a daunting task, so here are some tips to help you:

Narrow down your search

To save time when choosing your stools start by asking yourself some questions. Are your stools for indoor or outdoor use? How many do you need? What’s your budget? How much space do you have?Do they need to match your décor – ie. traditional or modern, industrial or vintage? Once you’ve answered these questions you’re ready to start your search.

What material?

The choice of material may well depend on where you’re considering using your stools. For instance, if your stools are for outdoor use then polypropylene or aluminium is a good choice. Both of these materials are durable, weather resistant, and available in many different styles. Polypropylene also comes in a fantastic array of colours, so it’s a great way of drawing attention to your outdoor seating space.

Decor/Theme

The type of stool you choose is also likely to be determined by your décor or theme. For example if you have an industrial theme in place then your best choice could be metak sools such as Tolix or other simplistic industrial stools such as our Hairpin stools, Cargo stools, and Detroit stools. These all boast a rugged raw look which ties in nicely. On the other hand, if you have a traditional décor then why not turn to our Bentwood stools for inspiration.

Seat cushions

It stands to reasons that stools with seat cushions are likely to feel more comfortable than those without. However consider that with fabric cushions you are going to need to wash them regularly and this can be time consuming and inconvenient. Instead, why not consider stools with vinyl padded seats as these can be easily wiped clean with little more than a damp cloth. Alternatively you might like metal stools which are often matched with wooden seats for that extra bit of warmth and comfort.
